Recycling
Our Recycling Blitz held on January 7 was a huge success. The total items collected on this day were approximately 28,700. We like to thank everyone who came out to help us on this day. Your support isgreatly appreciated.
Also, we are continuing to recycle each Friday to help subsidize our lunch programs, fieldtrips and other initiatives at the school. Unfortunately, our weekly recycling is declining more and more. Everyone mustrealize that recycling helps out ALL of our students, yet, not all of our students contribute to the recycling program. In order to keep our daily lunches at $2.00 and for the school to pay for fieldtrips there must be a higher percentage of students contributing each
week to subsidize these valuable programs. Remember, 100% of money raised through recycling goes back to the students.
Our most recent recycling contest held before Christmas was dedicated to a movie in St. John’s. The cost was $14/student. The school subsidized $9.00/student. The school incurred a cost of approximately $1100. Our recycling contest collected 11,000 items for this trip. As a result students incurred a $5.00 charge. In essence, we must All contribute to the recycling program to help minimize student costs for programs offered at Immaculate Conception. Students who do not contribute on a weekly basis are reaping the same benefits as all students who contribute on a weekly basis. An increase in participation will help resolve any issues that currently exist and be equitable for all. We encourage everyone to be part of the solution. Weappreciate everyone’s commitment.

Kinderstart Sessions

The remaining Kinderstart sessions will be as follows:

February 24, March 30, April 27, May 25
Group 1 – 9:00- 10:00 am
Group 2 – 10:45-11:45 am

Dress Code

Parents are reminded to ensure their children are dressed appropriately for the outdoors. During fine days students will be going outside during lunch times. Also, all students should have indoor footwear to change at school. Proper footwear is required during gym classes and other active events.

New Furniture

Our new tables for all Primary classrooms have been shipped and should be arriving any day. The chairs are back ordered and may take another 3 weeks to arrive.

After School Sports

The after school program has begun as of last week. Mondays and Wednesdays has been dedicated for students in Grades 4-6. Students are responsible to bring along their signed permission slips in order to participate. Also, students will need to arrange for rides home every evening at 3:45 pm. Students must ensure arrangements are made for each day before they leave home each morning. Students are not permitted to call home from school. This has become a concern since the program has started. Student cooperation is greatly appreciated in this manner.

Choir T-Shirts

Ms. Davies is in the process of ordering choir shirts for the upcoming Kiwanis Festival. All grade 1 students will need a shirt. In addition, any student needing a new shirt should let Ms. Davies or their classroom teachers know. The cost will be the same as previous years.

Lunch Orders

Parents are reminded that ALL lunch orders must be returned by Friday morning. We have parent volunteers who count all orders each Friday and create a master list for each teacher. This has become an issue for our volunteers. Please make sure orders are back by the deadline. Late orders will not be included in the classroom lists. Parents are asked to call the school if their son/daughter is home sick and do not get their lunch order passed in.Thanks for your cooperation!

Eastern School District Bussing Policy

Parents are reminded that the Eastern School District has guidelines in place for student bussing. All students have a designated bus stop and only under specific circumstances can students avail of a second bus stop on a consistent basis. A copy of this policy was sent home in September.
If you have any questions you can contact Mr. T. Crane at 229-4664.

Important !!!

Parents are asked to be cognizant of the guidelines and practices of dropping off
students in the mornings.

**
Students should not be dropped off to school prior to 8:25 am. Teacher supervision does not begin until this time and therefore students are unsupervised. Students arriving before this time are reminded to wait in the lobby.

**
No vehicles are permitted on the school parking lot prior to 8:30 a.m and also parents are reminded not to block the entrance to the parking lot when dropping off students. In addition, vehicles are not permitted to park on the lot between 8:25am-3:00 pm. We kindly ask for everyone’s cooperation in this matter as we ensure the safety of all students.
