Recycling

We are currently doing another recycling contest which involves all students collecting to offset the costs for a movie trip to St. John’s. Our goal was to collect 20,000 items for the past 6 weeks including this Friday, December 9. Unfortunately, we do not foresee reaching this target. Currently, we have collected approximately 7000 items. Raising 20,000 will result in the school making $2000. The cost for a movie (excluding any snacks) and busses to St. John’s will range from $1800-$2000. This cost is more than double than in previous years to Carbonear Cinema. Our movie is currently booked for Monday, December 19. Due to the low numbers of recycling, we have no choice to charge students for the movie. The cost per student will be determined after Friday’s recycling collection. Students will also be responsible for their own snacks at the movie.

Kinderstart Sessions

Our next Kinderstart session will take place December 16.
Group 1 – 9:00- 10:00 am
Group 2 – 10:45-11:45 am
The remaining Kinderstart sessions will be as follows:
January 27, February 24, March 30, April 27
May 25

School Development/Teacher Planning

There will be no half day teacher planning day in December. Our next half day will be Friday, January 27. All other days will coincide with Kinderstart sessions in the new year.

Christmas Dinner

This Friday, December 9, we will be serving our annual Christmas dinner to all students. Any student who prefers something else for lunch will be required to bring their lunch on that day.

Christmas Concert

Our Primary Christmas concert will be held on Wednesday, December 14 at the Assumption Complex, Avondale. Unfortunately, the school will incur costs associated with bus trips for practices and rental of the Complex. Therefore, we have increased the price of tickets to $6.00. Each family will be entitled to 4 tickets. Individuals will also have the option of paying at the door.

We will also be looking for volunteers during practices to assist with arranging tables and chairs required by the Parish. We greatly appreciate your time and efforts.

School Pictures

All students who have had retakes done and wish to order their photos, are reminded to return their order forms by this Thursday, December 8.

Dress Code

Parents are reminded to ensure their children are dressed appropriately for the outdoors. During fine days students will be going outside during lunch times. Also, all students should have indoor footwear to change at school. Proper footwear is required during gym classes and other active events.

Eastern School District Bussing Policy

Parents are reminded that the Eastern School District has guidelines in place for student bussing. All students have a designated bus stop and only under specific circumstances can students avail of a second bus stop on a consistent basis. A copy of this policy was sent home in September. Author- Kevin Major Visit

Newfoundland author, Kevin Major, will be visiting the school on Friday, December 9, to share his book- House of The Wooden Santas. All students in grades 3-6 will take part in these sharing sessions. The grades 3’s are currently working with this book in Language Arts. All other students are familiar with the book since having read it in previous years.

Important !!!

Parents are asked to be cognizant of the guidelines and practices of dropping off students in the mornings.

** Students should not be dropped off to school prior to 8:25 am. Teacher supervision does not begin until this time and therefore students are unsupervised. Students arriving before this time are reminded to wait in the lobby.

** No vehicles are permitted on the school parking lot prior to 8:30 a.m and also parents are reminded not to block the entrance to the parking lot when dropping off students. In addition, vehicles are not permitted to park on the lot between 8:25am-3:00 pm. We kindly ask for everyone’s cooperation in this matter as we ensure the safety of all students.

HomeWork Haven

Tutoring is available on Tuesdays and Thursdays for any student who would like extra help. Students must ensure that arrangements for pick up are made with parents for 3:45 pm.

Christmas Sweep Tickets

Tickets are due back on December 16, however, if students are finished selling tickets and have some remaining we would like to have them back so that we can pass them to other students who are willing to sell additional tickets.
